Arduino IDE
The free program where you write code and upload it to the UNO R3 and the ESP32. Every lesson starts here.
- 161 lessons
What it is for
The Arduino IDE (integrated development environment) is where your projects come to life. You type the sketch, click Upload, and the IDE compiles your code and sends it to the board over USB. The Serial Monitor and Serial Plotter show what the board is measuring.
The Library Manager installs code that others have written for sensors and cloud services, and the Boards Manager adds support for boards such as the ESP32.
It is free for Windows, macOS and Linux, and every lesson in our learning paths uses it.
Tips
- Select the right board and port in the Tools menu before you upload.
- Open the Serial Monitor at the baud rate given in the sketch (9600 for the UNO lessons, 115200 for the ESP32).
- Read the first red error message carefully: it usually names the line with the problem.
